At least 125,000 visitors are expected at this year’s Guadeamus Book Fair in the Romanian capital Bucharest, for an event that marks the thirtieth anniversary of the overthrow of the communist dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu.
Taking place in the B2 Pavilion of the Romexpo exhibition center in northern Bucharest, the annual programme, organised by Radio Romania, includes 250 exhibitors and 900 events.
The Radio Romania Gaudeamus Book Fair pretty much winds up the Romania book fair calendar for 2019, but is just one of a flurry of literary events taking place throughout the year, dominated by the Bookfest events.
Apr saw the 8th Bookfest Timișoara, while May-June witnessed the biggest event, the 14th Bookfest București.
August-September saw the 4th Bookfest Chișinău event and September also hosted the 8th Bookfest Cluj-Napoca and the 7th Bookfest Tîrgu Mureș.
October wound up the Bookfest series of book festivals with the 5th Bookfest Brașov event.
Like Guadeamus, the Bookfest București regularly attracts crowds of over 100,000.
