Amazon Crossing, the translations imprint of Amazon Publishing, has long been asking readers and publishers to recommend non-English language books for translation into English, but with the caveat that you needed to speak/read English to navigate the site.
Now the submissions site has an impressive drop-down menu in Arabic, Bengali, Dutch, English, French, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian and Spanish.
The addition of languages associated with the existing Kindle stores is understandable, but the inclusion of languages of countries where the Kindle store is not available and ebooks, if available at all, come with whispernet surcharges, raises the glimmer of hope that, just maybe, there is a Kindle Poland and a Kindle Russia store in the pipeline, and that the MENA (Middle East North Africa) countries may finally be on Amazon’s radar following the acquisition of Souq in July.
