Popular Group, a leading name in bookselling and education, has announced a collaboration with Southern University College (SUC) to raise funds for the Malaysian Chinese Literature Museum.

The initiative was unveiled during the Southern World Book Day celebrations held at Popular Bookstore, Mid Valley Southkey, reports Malaysia’s The Star.

Edward Liang, General Manager of Popular Group operations, praised SUC’s contributions to higher education and its focus on preserving and promoting Malaysian Chinese literature. SUC received the 2024 Brand Laureate World Best Brand Award in culture and ethnic studies – a global recognition that coincides with SUC’s golden jubilee celebrations.

A Library and Museum That Illuminate Knowledge

SUC is home to a libraryof more than 220,000 books, and the Malaysian Chinese Literature Museum is now regarded as a major hub for literary research in the region.

In support of these milestones and World Book Day 2025, Popular Bookstore is launching two fundraising initiatives:

Limited Edition Poetry Bookmarks: A set of five specially designed bookmarks will be sold at RM10 ($2.25), available in Popular Bookstores across Johor Bahru.

Book Charity Sales: Dedicated shelves will be installed in seven Popular Bookstores, featuring 127 books by SUC authors. All titles will be sold for charity, with 100% of proceeds donated to the literature museum.

The sale will run from April 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026, with a target of selling 2,000 copies from the 127-title collection.

“At Popular, we believe that knowledge changes destiny and reading lights up lives,” said Liang. “We are more than a bookstore – we are champions of education and culture.”
