Podimo has launched across 20 Latin American countries – Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Granada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.

It was only in July 2019 that TNPS was reporting that Podimo, the Denmark-based podcast-streaming project, had raised $6.7 million in seed funding to lunch an app that, flying in the face of received wisdom, wanted to charge consumers for listening to podcasts.

How the trade laughed. Podcasts? The poor man’s audiobook? No-one will pay to listen to podcasts. Morten Strunge has finally lost the plot.

But consumers are strange beasts, and are ready to part with their cash for quality podcast content. A reality that investors were quick to latch onto.

Fast forward June 2020 and investors were throwing money at Podimo to the tune of $16.8 million.

And fast forward again to 2021 and while TNPS was struggling to get online news emerged of yet another major investment round for Podimo, this time to the tune of $13.5 million.

Now Podimo has confirmed it has launched across 20 Latin American countries – Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Granada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela –offering unlimited access to 50,00 Spanish-language podcasts and 600,000 English-language podcasts, including original content exclusive to Podimo.

Per the press release,

Nine prestigious production companies in Latin America have signed agreements with Podimo to produce great original fiction and non-fiction podcast programs in the coming months that will soon be available exclusively on the Podimo streaming platform. As well as Sounds , Dixo and Sonic Frequency from Mexico, RDF-Emisor Podcasting from Chile, Posta , Anfibia Podcast and Sherezade from Argentina, as well as La No Ficción and Podway from Colombia are nine of the most prestigious podcast producers in Latin America that join the family of partners of the Podimo platform to explore new sound narratives that attract new audiences throughout the Latin American region through podcasts and audiobooks.

I’m still in catch-up mode after the recent internet disruption, but a deeper dive into the international podcasting arena will follow soon.
