Submissions are now being welcomed and will remain open until Friday, 4 July,

The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) has opened its annual call for the FIL Prize for Literature in Romance Languages.

Accompanied by a $150,000 award, the prize honours outstanding authors whose creative contributions have enriched the literary landscape across genres such as poetry, novels, theatre, short stories, and essays.

Submissions are now being welcomed and will remain open until Friday, 4 July, with the winner to be announced on 1 September 2025 and celebrated at the FIL’s opening ceremony on 29 November.

The Prize Legacy

The FIL Prize is a significant hallmark of excellence in Romance language literature. Open to authors whose works have garnered international critical acclaim, this award welcomes submissions in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, French, Italian, Romanian, and Portuguese. The prize has historically been bestowed upon literary luminaries such as Nicanor Parra, Nélida Piñón, and Mia Couto, establishing its global reputation.

Rigorous and Inclusive Selection Process

The application process is accessible to cultural and educational institutions, associations, or even groups of individuals with a vested interest in literature.

It seems jury members may also nominate candidates, which is a red fag for me, or maybe I’m missing something in translation.

The jury evaluates the entire body of work of each candidate, ensuring that the Prize remains a testament to enduring literary contributions.

Applications are exclusively accepted via the FIL Guadalajara website.
