The Sharjah International Book Fair can attract over 2 million visitors in a good year, and is one of the few Arabic book fairs that gets wide international coverage, so being a SIBF Guest of Honour is a coveted prize.
These things are of course arranged long in advance, but this week, per a report from Sharjah24, the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has confirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco will be the official Guest of Honour at #SIBF24 in November.
A formal agreement has just been signed between the SBA and the Books, Libraries, and Archives Authority at the Morocco Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication.
SBA chair and former International Publishers Association – IPA president Bodour Al Qasimi highlighted Morocco’s rich literary heritage and its role as a beacon of cultural and intellectual progress and entwined this with Sharjah’s status as an international meeting point for global cultures and a gateway to Arabic literature and culture.
