Those of you desperately wanting to be offended or outraged by my TNPS op-eds will have to simmer a little longer, but be assured normal service will resume soon.
This will be uncharacteristically brief as I continue to play catch-up after the most recent long walk on the beach thanks to The Gambia’s never-ending electricity and internet games.
It seems while I was offline in late February, Kobo Plus, the unlimited subscription arm of Rakuten Kobo, launched in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and today they have just added a further two countries to the list, per the headline.
Tucked away in the February press release was news that Kobo will be launching its self-publishing arm, Kobo Writing Life, in Taiwan and Hong Kong later this year.
Today’s press release doesn’t offer anything new except, obviously, that Kobo Plus is now live in Ireland and South Africa.
As warned above, this is but a brief summary of a topic I need to return to in depth sometime real soon, because Kobo’s continuing expansion of its unlimited streaming programme flies in the face of the conventional wisdom emerging from the bigger streaming players.
But for now, I must return to the mountain of unchecked industry alerts, unanswered messages and emails, and cold coffee, in a never-ending game of catch-up while at the same time preparing for a TNPS presentation at Bologna.
