The Philippines is one of the most exciting book markets in SE Asia, and with 102 million people online (as many as France and Spain combined) it’s also one of the most exciting digital books markets in the region.
The Philippine Book Festival was in Manila in June and this month heads to Davao for a three day event spanning August 18-20.
Organised by the National Book Development Board (NBDB), the national book authority of the Philippines, the Philippine Book Festival (PBF) is the largest traveling book festival in the country.

The festival starts just weeks after the BIG BAD WOLF BOOKS [BBW BOOKS] Pasay City sale ended (June 23-July 3). This year Big Bad Wolf took 2 million mostly English language books to the event.
Talking to Business World, Jacqueline Ng revealed that the Philippines market develops differently from other Big Bad Wolf markets.
“In the Philippines, our statistics are unique.. It’s very equal. It’s 1/3 fiction, 1/3 non-fiction, and 1/3 children’s. In other countries it’s about 75% children’s and then non-fiction and probably 5% adult fiction.”
In September the Manila International Book Fair kicks off, running Sept. 14-17 this year, and expects about 160,000 visitors.
