Mexico – Coahuila International Book Fair’s 25th edition set for April 28-May 7.
Acclaimed as the biggest book fair in northern Mexico, preparations are underway for FIL Coahuil, which will take place at the Centro Cultural Universitario del Pueblo Mágico de Arteaga.

Azerbaijan – The 2nd Baku Children’s Book Festival has just wound up.
Held at the Baku Sports Palace, Azerbaijan’s 2nd Children’s Book Festival took place over the past couple of days, reports Laman Ismalyilova for Azer News
Organised by the Ministries of Culture, Youth and Sports, Science and Education, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, and the Azerbaijan Publishers Association, the event showcased thousands of children’s books, with authors and publishers engaging with the visitors.

Wired has must-read overview of the rise of Bookshop.org, including some invaluable insights into the world of founder Andy Hunter.
Some of the accompanying images are not so invaluable – a photo of Agent Jellybean, a pet rat owned by Hunter’s daughter doesn’t really add anything to the narrative – but a small price to pay to get a better understanding of how Bookshop.org works in the real world.

“Filipino children’s books do not enjoy international prominence. It’s something of a niche: there’s a scarcity of Filipino children’s books in the global mainstream media. Books from children’s Filipine authors Erin Entrada Kelly, Michelle Sterling, and others certainly help elevate the status of that niche, but they often cater to the Filipino diaspora. And this genre has a lot more to offer.
“International readers know little about Filipino children’s books that come from the Philippines itself, a completely different set of works that have distinct identities.”
