In 2019 the Baghdad International Book Fair presented 2 million books and attracted a record one million visitors.
Running December 9 through 19 the Baghdad International Book Fair this year will be observing all the to-be-expected safety and hygiene rules that mark the pandemic era. It means the event has little chance of attracting the huge crowds it has in the past, but even so there should be a substantial turn-out.
300 participants from 21 Arab and other countries are expected. Organised by the Al-Mada Foundation for Media, Culture and Arts, the fair will be held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi in cooperation with The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities and the Iraqi Publishers and Writers Association. Around one million titles are expected to be made available.

The exhibition will host dozens of artistic, cultural and media events, including evenings of folk dancing, singing and poetry, in addition to discussion tables and seminars on various topics.
