The Akwaba Culture Association’s Prix Ivoire pour la Littérature africaine d’Expression is set to be awarded on November 10 in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan, and this past week the finalist have been announced.
49 books from 12 countries were chasing the prize, worth 2 million CFA (3,000 euros / $3,500), but just six made the final:

  • Nadia Essalmi (Maroc), La révolte des rêves, récits, Tanger, Virgule Editions, 2017
  • Gauz (Côte d’Ivoire), Camarade Papa, roman, Paris, éd. Le Nouvel Attila, 2018 ;
  • Nabil Haidar(Sénégal), Les Cèdres sauvages, roman, Dakar, éd. Khoudia, 2017;
  • Ndèye Fatou Kane (Sénégal), Vous avez dit féministe ? essai,Dakar, éd. L’Harmattan-Sénégal, polar, 2018 ;
  • Azzeddine El Matine (Maroc), Slimane, le jardinier des mots, roman, Casablanca, éd. La Croisée des chemins;
  • Mohamed Toihiri (Comores), Splendeurs et misères d’un bigame, La véritable vie d’Allan Marouani, roman, éd. Panafrika/Silex/Nouvelles du Sud, 2018.

Writers Fatou Diome (Senegal), Emmanuel Dongala (Congo) and Wilfried Nsondé (Congo) will be the guests of honor at the finals ceremony at the Hotel du Golf (Abidjan) under the patronage of the President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire. As well as collecting the prize money, the winner will be guest of honour at the 2019 Geneva Book Fair.

Created in 2008 by Akwaba Culture, an association of Ivorian law, the Ivory Prize rewards emerging authors from Africa and African diasporas. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Francophonie of Côte d’Ivoire, the International Organization of La Francophonie, the French Embassy in Abidjan and the Librairie de France Group of Côte d’Ivoire.
